Last month we had the pleasure of hosting Gurmukh. She has been teaching Yoga for 50+ years and she turned 80 this year. As she taught her classes, and we held our arms up in the air for what felt like an hour, it reminded us of the benefits of staying steady and being consistent. There are times in our life where we might stray from the practice, but most of us always come back to it. This is because the practice brings us back home to ourselves. Home is inside you. Staying steady with asana, chanting, meditation, or whichever practice you may choose, even for a short time every day, reminds us of our true nature. We asked Gurmukh, “Do you ever sleep in and not get up and practice?”. She simply replied: “No, never. I always get up before the sun and do my Sadhana (spiritual practice).” Practising with a legendary teacher like Gurmukh inspires and moves us in such a way that it stays with us for a lifetime.
