Dear friends, January is a double-edged sword, partly known as the January Blues and partly known for its new beginnings. If your inbox looks anything like ours, it is full of advice on how to set intentions and put your best foot forward into the new year. At Love Supreme Projects, we have one big intention as we start a new year, a new month, and a new cycle - we want to do our best to crack our hearts open with the practice. We want to go into 2023 with our hearts wide, expansive, compassionate and kind, not just towards others but especially towards ourselves, no matter what the year may bring us.
It is always easier to keep the heart open when we are joyful, but we cannot control what life throws our way. What we can do, with regular practice, is create the space to try to respond to it all with an open heart and a clear mind, to remain stable and steady and responsive, rather than react from a space of constriction and contraction. The great Maya Angelou reminds us:
“I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.”
